The combined BIS/MS in Software Engineering program is designed to offer
Part-Time Studies students a planned educational track that will have
synergistic benefits of the
BIS in Information Systems and
MS in
Software Engineering programs alike.
Interested students are encouraged to
contact their Part-Time Studies academic advisor to declare their interest and
for more information. Prior to the start of their senior year, qualified BIS
Information Systems majors
will complete the required formal notification process that will lead to their
admission into the graduate part of the program. These students will earn the M.S. in
Software Engineering in conjunction with their BIS in Information Systems. To be
eligible, a student

Students who are admitted in the BIS/MS track will enroll in two to three graduate
Software Engineering
courses during their final undergraduate year. The two courses listed below will count toward both the BIS degree and the M.S. in
Software Engineering.
A stucent may also get approval to take an additional CSC graduate course as
part of the combined degree. Only grades B or higher will be counted toward the graduate
degree.
- CSC8490 (Database Management)
- CSC8540 (Software Engineering)
For students in the BIS/MS track, there is no change in requirements for the undergraduate major in
Information Systems. The same number of credits and the same required courses are still in place. The only difference is that the graduate courses described above will be applied toward either the students' major courses or free-electives.
