The
curriculum for a major in General Studies requires only 45 core credits with
an additional 33 credits in the major and 42 free elective credits. Coursework for
the General Studies major is selected from the following areas:
- Humanities: Art History, Classical Studies, Communication, Education,
English, French, German, History, Peace and Justice, Philosophy, Spanish, Theology,
Theatre
- Social Sciences: Economics, Geography, Political Science, Psychology,
Sociology
- Independent General Studies (self-defined academic program)

ANNOUNCES NEW OPTION FOR TEACHING CERTIFICATION
Part-Time Studies, in partnership with the
College of Arts and Sciences and the Department of Education and Human Services,
is pleased to announce another educational opportunity for Bachelor of
Interdisciplinary Studies (BIS) students. BIS students who are majoring in
General Studies now will have the option to simultaneously earn their
Pennsylvania teaching certification in Social Studies. This can all be
accomplished within the framework of the BIS/General Studies
degree—the core curriculum, major, elective and teaching certification
requirements can all be fulfilled as part of the 120 credits that make up the
BIS/General Studies and Teaching Certification
curriculum.

NOTE: Pennsylvania Teacher
Certification requires that students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 at
graduation and are also required to successfully complete the state mandated
Praxis series of examinations.
